Thank you by Mo Willems

Elephant and Piggie are friends who share many adventures in a series of early reader books. These books are funny and a perfect match for young kids’ sense of humor. They share lessons of friendship, problem solving, and in this particular title, gratitude. Thank You is the final book in the series, but it can stand alone. It follows Piggie as she thanks all those who have shared the journey, including someone she almost forgets to thank. Whenever I read Elephant and Piggie books to a group of kids, there are giggles all around. There are many text clues in the illustrations to help newly independent readers. Mo Willems was a writer and animator for #SesameStreet early in his career, so you know you’re kids are in good hands with his books.

Gracias, Thanks by Pat Mora

A boy says thanks for the simple joys in life in this beautifully illustrated book. If you want to instill a love for the small and every day in our lives, such as laughter with family and singing crickets, this is a great one to share. You can extend it into your daily life by noticing and naming small joys together. It’s the perfect work for kids since they live and breathe wonder and curiosity. The text is in both Spanish and English.

Now by Antoinette Portis

A girl lists her favorites throughout the day. Simple text and gorgeous illustrations tell the story of a child finding joy in the present, in moments such as a watching a worm and standing in a mud puddle. Another one that can pour over into your days.

Wishing you a joyful season with family, friends, and wonderful moments!
