Local Family Friendly Holiday Run/Walks

In the Desert, Fall and Winter are the best times of year to get outside and enjoy our beautiful landscape along with the temps we’ve been waiting all summer for! So, why not do so with your family in a fun and active way?

During the months of November and December there are tons of Family Friendly 5k/10k walks/runs, half marathons and even a triathlon or two. Your level of fitness can be beginner to novice. There’s something for everyone and typically the events include a finishers medal, tee shirt for each participant, and often end with a yummy festive treat! Most races benefit some sort of charity, so as a family you’ll be helping a good cause too.

Don’t know where to start to even consider something like this, not to worry, we’ve done all the leg work for you by listing the local events below. Now you just have to pick one and register. Grab a group of friends to join you, get fun costumes, plan to make it a family tradition. It’s a great way to show your kids that fitness can be fun and is a great priority to have in life. Many of the events even have special kids dashes and Tot trots so all ages can participate. Nervous because you’ve never ran a 5k? Check out apps like Nike Run, that have built in programs to help you train.

Even if you walk the whole thing, you’re still getting out, moving your body, and making memories with your family. In our book, we call that a WIN!
