Simple Self Care Practices Vol 2

You cannot be the mom and wife you want to be if you aren’t the happy, confident, mindful women you should and deserve to be. Here are a few Self Care Tips working wonders for me:

Get Up Earlier

What I can accomplish in the time before my children wake up is astonishing! I can workout, shower, get dressed, do my short makeup routine (more on that below), make morning green smoothies, pack lunches and even walk my dog!

Checking all these items off the list means I can sit and enjoy a morning green smoothie with my kids as opposed to running around trying to do 10 things at once, praying we get out of the house on time.

Nighttime TIP: Keep a notepad next to your bed so when you first get into bed and begin to rest your mind and body, you can quickly jot down those pesky to do’s that pop into your mind. Happens to us all, it’s ok!

That way when you wake up early you have a to do list already prepared. Give 5-10 minutes for notes then cut it off. Kiss your hubby goodnight, set your alarm, turn on headspace or white noise and shut your brain off!

Morning TIP: take 5 minutes to write down something you’re thankful for and something you’d like to accomplish that day. Perfect practice to start the day on a positive note!

Schedule Workouts

Workouts are not optional, they’re part of my weekly routine just like my daughter’s gymnastics class or my son’s swim lessons. You put it on the calendar, you make it happen! Find a friend who wants to do the same thing, share your calendars and check in with each other. Accountability is the name of the game.

Gym doesn’t offer childcare or your home workout always getting interrupted? Schedule a family member or babysitter a week in advance! Better yet ask them to make it a regular weekly occurrence.

TIP: schedule this person for about 30 – 45 minutes longer than it takes you to get to and from your workout. Why? Well because you and I both know you don’t want to spend the rest of your day sweaty. You’ll want to shower and freshen up a bit once home so take that time into account when scheduling!

Treat Yourself!

Being a mom is hard work. We are doing 10 different jobs every single day. Always giving and doing for others. Don’t get me wrong I love every second of it, but heck, I deserve a treat here and there too! So, I created a habit of buying myself something every month. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just something for you only.

My recent “Me Treats”

  • new activewear from my line, ZYIA Active

  • couple new books

  • massage and facial

  • hike and lunch date with a girlfriend

  • new boots

TIP: I’ve found clothing to be the best monthly treat. A new outfit for date night or your child’s school play will have you feeling like Gisele Bündchen on a Victoria Secret catwalk.

We are all different women, living different lifestyles but one thing we all have in common is the need for more self-care.

Always remember that you cannot be the mom and wife you want to be if you aren’t the happy, confident, mindful women you should and deserve to be.
